Not all coffee suits all coffee drinkers

Some coffees are rich and chocolatey. Some are lighter, fruitier or more delicate. Some work brilliantly through an espresso machine, while others are better suited to filter, cafetière or moka pot.

The quiz helps narrow things down based on how you brew, how you take your coffee, and the sort of flavours you naturally enjoy.

Answer a few quick questions and we’ll suggest a good first bag.

Whether you’re buying whole beans, ground coffee, or you’re still figuring out what you like, this should make choosing a bit easier:

A good first bag is better than a perfect guess

Coffee can be personal, so the aim here isn’t to overcomplicate it. We’ll give you a sensible place to start, then you can adjust from there.

Prefer something smoother? Go a little more chocolatey.

Want something with more character? Try a lighter or fruitier roast.

Still not sure? The Taster Box is a good way to try a few different styles without committing to one full bag.

Freshly roasted

Our coffees are roasted in small batches and sent out fresh, so you get better flavour in the cup.

Ground your way

Choose whole bean or select the grind that suits how you brew at home.

Easy to choose

Use the quiz, shop by taste, or start with one of our best first bags. Good coffee doesn't need to be complicated.

Frequently asked questions

What coffee should I choose first?

If you’re not sure, start with something smooth, balanced and easy to enjoy. House Blend, Phong Nha Brew and Sumatra Ember are good first bags if you like richer, chocolatey coffee.

Does the quiz work for espresso machines?

Yes. The quiz can help whether you use a bean-to-cup machine, Sage machine, espresso setup, cafetière, moka pot or filter brewer.

Should I buy whole bean or ground coffee?

Whole bean is best if you have a grinder, because it helps keep the coffee fresher for longer. If you don’t have a grinder, choose ground coffee and pick the option that matches your brew method.

What if I still can’t decide?

Go for the Taster Box. It gives you a few different coffees to try, so you can work out what you like without guessing from one bag.

Is darker coffee stronger?

Not always. Darker roasts often taste richer, heavier and more intense, but strength also depends on how much coffee you use and how you brew it.
